It serves not only as a vital tool for communication but also as a cultural bridge linking the past and present. Coinciding with Grain Rain, we celebrated the sixteenth International Chinese Language Day. To offer more international students an opportunity to appreciate the allure of Chinese characters, we organized a Hanfu cultural event themed 'Colorful Robes Tailored with Han Charm, Threads Connecting a Millennium.'This event integrates Chinese language learning with Hanfu culture, allowing international students to experience the elegance of the script while fostering greater appreciation and dissemination of our Hanfu heritage.
The event took place at 2 p.m. on April 26th at the Overseas Education College of Fujian Normal University, where international students from various countries gathered to immerse themselves in the rich experience of Chinese language and Hanfu culture.
At the start of the event, the host and group leaders guided the international students through simple word games, such as 'initial letter guessing' and 'adding strokes to form new characters,' fostering stronger emotional bonds among participants. Participants provided feedback indicating that such activities significantly enhanced both the enjoyment and practical application of learning Chinese.
The event then moved into the cultural introduction segment, during which the host systematically traced the evolution of Hanfu from the pre-Qin era through the Ming and Qing dynasties, with a focus on the distinctive features of traditional garments such as shenyi, ruqun, round-collar robes, aoqun, and mǎmiàn skirts. Through vivid and richly illustrated dynamic presentations, participants gained an intuitive appreciation of the diverse styles of Hanfu across different historical periods, deepening their understanding of Hanfu culture.
Moreover, the event featured a dedicated traditional etiquette learning module, in which the host demonstrated rituals from the Tang and Song dynasties live and personally guided the international students, who studied attentively, mastering each movement with care and precision. This segment not only enabled the international students to experience the distinctive elegance of Chinese etiquette through tangible body language but also fostered a bridge of cultural understanding between China and the world through immersive participation. When the host completes the full etiquette demonstration with proper poise, the harmonious interplay between the clothing styles and ceremonial gestures creates a cultural dialogue that transcends time and space, rendering the immersive experience of civilization both profound and vibrant.

During the cultural experience segment, students eagerly participated in the handcrafted creation of Miniature Hanfu Models under the guidance of the host. Everyone unleashed their creativity, personally cutting, assembling, and decorating the models, fully engaged and delighted. Throughout the crafting process, students exchanged ideas and shared creativity, strengthening their friendships through collaboration and interaction.
During the final photo session, students held the miniature Hanfu models they had crafted themselves, capturing this beautiful moment before the camera.
This event serves as a bridge through the Chinese language, creating a multifaceted platform for both language learning and cultural immersion. Through collaborative interaction between Chinese and international students, not only was their proficiency in Chinese enhanced, but also, by using Chinese as a medium, the rich heritage of traditional Chinese culture shone even more brilliantly in the context of cross-cultural exchange.
